here at work.

Seems the lady my MIL hired to take my position has been in some trouble in the past.....for embezzlement. Not good when the job you are being hired for requires you to work with the company books. She found out by calling some of her job references. :paranoid She's asked the lady if she can send her something authorizing her (MIL) to run a background check on her and she said she'd e-mail it right over. Well, that was almost 2 hours ago. I'm thinking my MIL won't be hearing from her. My poor MIL is trying to be fair and all....but really I'm thinking she's probably not a good match. Kwim?

Yeah, I don't think she would be a good fit for the company.

That's a real "duh!"

With the "oversight" that you have the last thing they need is someone with loose fingers.

Still no e-mail from her giving permission to run the background check. I'm not surprised. My MIL did call some more of her references this morning. One was a personal refererence. He's known her for 45 years. He spoke very highly of her but he asked what sort of job she was applying for and when he was told "accounting" he said that he knew what he was about to reveal would cost her the job but that he couldn't lie and he said that she had served jail time for embezzlement. Said that if it was for any other sort of job he'd highly recommend her because she's a very hard worker and a nice person. She just did something very stupid. But he said that he just couldn't recommend her for a job dealing with money. MIL thanked him for his honesty.

So....she's out.

The upside to all of this is that there were two candidates that stood out for the job. She was one and there was one other lady. The other lady had a job so waiting for me to get my clearance wasn't an issue for her at all. But it was for the one they chose in the end because she didn't have a job (probably because no one will hire her with that sort of record, kwim?). MIL has now called the one lady and has offered the position to her if all her references check out. And that lady has agreed to a background check. :) So......now I'm not feeling extremely rushed and like I am holding up the show anymore.

I know here even a bankrupcy can hurt you from getting a job when it comes to dealing with money so embezzlement would be a big NO.

Yeah even bankruptcy can prevent you from large cash handling, payroll, and other financial responisbilities.... Embezzlement? NO WAY in HELL would I allow her any control of ANY amount of money....
Luckily my bankruptcy doesnt prevent me from controlling money in albertsons, BUT if i wanted to go into a bank and work as a teller or a vault clerk, that would be a no go there....

And I am sure you all will be surprised to hear this....but still no word from her. LOL

Oh well. Thankfully we had many other applicants to choose from and my MIL has already found another to take her spot. She's going to do a background check and reference check on this one. Hopefully it all works out. My MIL is more nervous than ever now about retiring. Matter of fact I think she said the other day that she might put it off for another year. They would still hire someone to fill my place though.

And I didn't know that about bankruptcy. Learn something new everyday. :)

I filed it after my divorce and I can't get a job in a bank, a store ( did get one only because guy was my neighbour and he knew I didn't file after running all my bills to the top , he knew it was because of my divorce) can't get bonded, it really sucks. Just because a divorce put me in financial hardship does not mean I am a thief.

:( I completely agree with you. I know several people that have had to file for reasons beyond their control. I'd hate to think they can't get a job easily because of that. Makes a bad situation even worse. :(

As far as my job, I dont NEED to have a personal indemnity bond for cash handling, as im rarely in control of more than 50,000 per day. If I routinely handled over that amount I think they would have to bond us, but its all good. One of the other SS's used to work for US Bank in the Vault, and her husband fucked that up by writing bad checks all over town on a US Bank account.....

to work in a call center here you have to be bonded.
